New Year, New Role, New Goals

2016 is going to be amazing! 2015 was pretty amazing as per my last post – and finished on a particular high for me with the birth of a new nephew, Austin! He’s amazing and adorable and I’m totally in love! But I reckon 2016 is going to be even better and so far it’s off to a fantastic start with me getting some R&R in my favourite part of NZ, the Coromandel over the summer break.

Professionally, I’m kicking off the year in a brand new role as NZME’s Recruitment and Employee Brand Lead which I’m hugely excited about! It’s exactly the new challenge I needed after all my years in an HRBP role and is a fantastic opportunity to merge the HR skills I’ve been honing with my marketing past. I have a massive end goal in sight and big expectations of myself, so am now working through a plan and strategy to get us there which will need a series of mini goals and steps in a roadmap to ensure I reach the intended end destination. Which will no doubt change and have a few twists and turns along the way, but that’s half the fun of it! I’m loving the new direction and focus of thinking that the role has brought so far, I’m really looking forward to being part of a new and progressive wider HR team with some incredible talent and am super excited about the year ahead and all it has in store.

Development wise I know my new role will be a big learning curve, but I’ve also committed along with an enthusiastic group of inspirational HR type folk from around the globe to helping steer #NZLead into its future incarnation. Amanda has handed over the reins to a degree, you can read more about that here so I look forward to seeing where the journey takes us, but have no doubt that there’ll be professional development and learnings in it for all of us, and I’m excited to be a part of it.

Personally, I mentioned in my last post my new year’s resolution for 2015 was to be kinder to myself. I’m making that a goal this year in the hope I achieve it! I need to put some parameters around what this means, but I’m thinking along the lines of not putting my hand up to organise everything and anything that comes my way, not being too hard on myself if I miss a run or opt instead for a walk and losing the working Mum guilt J

A side goal of being kinder to myself is health…so I’m embarking once again on a sugar free crusade – I did it last year and noticed so many positive changes in my life both physically and mentally that I know it’s worthwhile. However, in the lead up to Christmas and since I have WAY over done the lollies and chocolate and now it’s time to take control again. Gluten is another thing that has to go. I’m coeliac so once again I know how bad it is for me and how crap it makes me feel, but too often I think a little bit won’t hurt. Well it does. So it’s gone too.

I’m going to need a lot of self-control to achieve the personal goals, but I’m sure I can by keeping myself accountable and afterall they’re a health and lifestyle choice, so keeping that in mind should help. As for the professional side of things – bring it on 2016, I can’t wait!
